Wynter Sims with Vice President for Student Affairs Frances Keene

“Wynter Sims’ intellectual engagement and commitment to discovery reflect a lifelong learner who sees every task as an opportunity for growth and innovation,” said Wynter’s nominator.

Wynter cares deeply for the world around them, and they continuously seek to understand how processes work so they can help make the world a better place.

Wynter serves as Occupancy Lead for Facilities and Operations. The nominator said, in Wynter’s work, “They don’t stop at what they are meant to do — they want to know why and how. Wynter is the type of employee who would stay late after their shift just to ask for clarity on a process or a task they were given, offering suggestions for improving the process.”

Wynter’s curiosity drives them to evaluate processes and understand underlying structures. When given an assignment, Wynter asks intentional questions to fully understand what their responsibilities are so they can complete it correctly and efficiently. Their desire for understanding is intertwined with a drive to help others and improve the world around them.

The nominator said that Wynter’s questions often anticipate problems before they happen, leading to improved processes and systems. “Wynter pushes the team to innovate and adopt better practices.”

Their passion for understanding the “why” behind their work has inspired their peers and co-workers to think deeply about their own responsibilities and roles. The nominator said, “Their curiosity contributes to a stronger, more thoughtful work environment.”

“Wynter’s relentless curiosity positively impacts Housing Services and reaches beyond the desk to the broader community,” said the nominator.

“They aim to use their knowledge to improve humanity, and they demonstrate each day that they are the type of student to claim this legacy now and into the future.”

Wynter is a senior majoring in physics and minoring in astronomy and math in the College of Science. Their goal is to one day design safer, more efficient, and more user-friendly roadways and traffic systems.

“Wynter has a genuine passion for making life easier and safer, and they strive to fulfill this passion through their professional and academic endeavors,” said the nominator.

For inquiring deeply into the big and small ways we can each improve the world around us, Student Affairs is proud to present the Aspire! Award for COMMIT TO UNWAVERING CURIOSITY to Wynter Sims.
