JC Cepillo

Jeyein Cepillo

JC Cepillo defines courageous leadership as “understanding the potential you have for making a positive impact and putting aside your own personal interests to make time to help others for the betterment of the community.”

This is something JC, a senior who is majoring in industrial and systems engineering, has done consistently during his time as a Hokie.

He said, “I didn’t hold back in doing everything I could to better the experience for everyone.”

This perfectly sums up his approach to leadership.

JC has served as president of the Filipino American Student Association, is part of the Delta Pi Nu Local Leadership and Service Fraternity, and was 2020 Homecoming Royalty. His platform was based on purposeful, unconditional service to others.

He wrote, “Regardless of who you are, where you come from, or what your experiences have been, everyone deserves a support system. It’s the experiences I was able to have by putting myself out there, even when I was afraid or nervous, that helped me form a support system here, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

All this fits perfectly with the goals JC listed on his Experience VT map. He used his Strengths to help him effect change and blaze a path for others.

His nominator said, “JC is one of the most dedicated individuals I have ever met. His mindset and achievements inspire me to work harder each day. Above all, JC is a wonderful friend whom I have always been able to go to whenever I needed someone to talk to. Despite his busy schedule, he always manages to make time for those he cares about. He is unafraid to break the mold and step out of his comfort zone, and for that, I believe he is a perfect representation of Courageous Leadership.”

We couldn’t agree more. JC, it is my honor to present to you the Aspire! Award for PREPARE FOR A LIFE OF COURAGEOUS LEADERSHIP.
