Kody Ho
“Kody Ho embodies the qualities of a courageous leader, always taking initiative and demonstrating an unwavering commitment to positive change,” said his nominator. “He has proven his ability to navigate challenges with grace and determination, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.”
Kody is a proud first-generation college student and a transfer student. When he came to Virginia Tech, he was hesitant about how he would fit in. Through a combination of passion, perseverance, and open-mindedness, Kody not only found his place as a student — he found his calling as a leader.
Kody is chapter president of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. He was elected president of his fraternity in his junior year. Kody’s nominator described that his leadership has fostered a cultural shift, noting: “His efforts are shaping the fraternity’s identity and contributing to a positive, supportive environment for all members.”
As chapter president, Kody has taken a firm stance against hazing, implementing systems to protect new members. He has also spearheaded a campus-wide initiative to address the issue. Last spring, he organized “Turning Tragedies into Progress,” a high-profile event to raise awareness of the dangers of hazing. The event featured impactful speakers, including families who tragically lost loved ones to hazing.
“The event promoted a culture of respect, accountability, and dignity,” said his nominator.
Under Kody’s leadership, Phi Delta Theta won fraternity of the year for 2024-25, the Impact Award, and ten additional national awards. The chapter has also broken philanthropy records, raising over $10,000 in funds.
Kody is also a Hokies on Track intern for New Student and Family Programs. He has facilitated events with prospective students and helped lead off-campus community meetings during Weeks of Welcome. His nominator said that he always talks to as many new students as possible, making sure that all worries and questions are addressed.
“Kody consistently goes above and beyond to facilitate a seamless integration process, empowering new students to thrive from day one,” said the nominator.
Outside of his roles at Virginia Tech, Kody demonstrates courageous leadership through community service, volunteer activities, and a commitment to social causes, such as diversity and inclusion and mental health awareness.
“Kody approaches each endeavor with tenacity, empathy, and an unwavering focus on creating a better world for all,” said his nominator.
Kody said, “Being a courageous leader means the ability to take risks, make tough decisions, and stand up for your beliefs and values, even when you are faced with adversity. My passion is overcoming obstacles and knocking down barriers in order to give back to my family, friends, or anyone in need.”
Kody is a senior majoring in marketing management with a minor in professional sales in Pamplin College of Business. After graduation, he plans to get a job in sales, stay connected with his fraternity, spend more time with his baby brother, and continue to lead and inspire people in the communities he joins.
For his fearless commitment to making the world a better place, Student Affairs is proud to present the Aspire! Award for Prepare for a Life of COURAGEOUS LEADERSHIP to Kody Ho.
